Data Methodology

Our rating system is based on match results weighted by factors including:

• Match result — win, draw, or loss outcome
• Goal difference — margin of victory or defeat
• Opponent strength — the current rating of the opposing team
• Competition importance — World Cup, continental tournaments, qualifiers, and friendlies are weighted differently
• Recency — more recent results carry greater weight

Ratings are recalculated after every international match window. Historical data goes back to cover all tracked international results.
